High school students from Chester, Norristown, and Philadelphia are getting a first-hand look at career opportunities beyond high school, thanks to a new initiative by AT&T in partnership with Communities in Schools of Philadelphia. About 100 high school students are attending AT&T’s Aspire Mentoring Academy to allow students to explore career options in the telecommunications field.

“This program allows our employees to get personally involved in AT&T’s commitment to education and have a lasting impact on students’ lives,” J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid Atlantic, said. “By sharing career advice, skills and knowledge with teens who need it the most, we can help shape future generations and set them up for success.”

Aspire Mentoring Academy is part of AT&T Aspire. Students who participated in the spring pilot program reported improve skills in collaboration, communications, critical thinking, and creativity after participating in the program.

“We are grateful to AT&T for understanding the value of education. It is so important for students to have an opportunity to develop the real-world experience needed to be competitive in a global economy,” said Martin Nock, president and chief executive officer of CIS of Philadelphia.
